sandbar party

Yesterday Phil and I went down to Wrightsville Beach to his company's annual Sandbar Party. There is this sandbar that uncovers during low tide in the inlet and I guess the town kind of "rents" it out for events. They have a fake palm tree and tiki umbrella think that stays out there all the time, just sticks out funny at high tide. Anyway, so we parked, took a trolley to a boat dock, and the shuttle boat pontoon thing took us to the "island". We were lucky enough to be able to leave the girls here and just went alone. It was a blast! It's for employees of eplus, partners from other companies, and big customers. It started at 2, approaching low tide, until 6pm. The boat ran between the condos where we docked and the sandbar. A lady who works out of the Wilmington eplus office lives right there by the dock so she let us use her bathroom and stuff. And they were making pina coladas there and shuttling them over! Anyway, it was catered and they had tons of good food, entertainment for the kids (made me feel a little guilty, just a tad), and people just kind of hung out and talked.

Then we went back to our hotel, took showers, changed, and headed out to dinner with a guy Aaron who is one of Phil's engineers and his wife Kim. They had dropped their kids off with the grandparents as well! I had met them at our Christmas party and have run into Kim and their kids a few times, including last week at the movies. So we had a good time spending a kidless night out with them. Then this morning we got to sleep in and Hampton Inns have the greatest beds!! We went back down to the beach and had brunch at the Oceanic before heading back home where the girls and the grandparents were VERY glad to have us back:) We forgot to take any pictures yesterday, but here is one from last year:

The weather was much of the same last year. Very overcast, but warm. Last year we actually got hit with rain after about 2 hours and we did take the kids with us so we left early. This year it was pouring when we first got to Wilmington around 12, but it cleared up for us and was great! We def. will take the girls next year because they really would have loved it. But we really also enjoyed being alone even though it was just last month that we went down for that wedding. We've decided that Wilmington would be the only place we'd like to live other than here. Phil's boss said, hey, come down any time, he can always work from here! Maybe after the girls graduate from high school!
