If she wants to go downstairs to Gramma's room she says, "will you come get me if the made out of gold show comes on?" She loves it and it cracks me up.
She has been such a good girl today:) She's been using awesome manners! (something I do have to credit to her teachers. They do provide really good structure even though they're not on my A list yet. I'll work on being so bitchy about that.)
Tonight she helped me cook cornbread with dinner. Yes, I'm feeling fine, I cook good meals sometimes. Then tonight they were a little stir crazy and in an effort to keep them away from the TV and computer we made some cookie dough. They love to cook. I looked in my cook book to see what cookies required ingredients I actually had at home. Snickerdoodles it was! They happen to be my Dad's favorite and he is coming in town tomorrow or Saturday. We think. Turns out you had to chill the dough so we'll finish making them tomorrow!
Tomorrow Sydney has preschool so Mollie and I get to have some togetherness. She cracks me up when she and I can have a conversation one on one.
Why is it wonderful?
Because I got so much done again while the girls were at preschool.
Including a nice lunch at Panera with Jennifer and Chris before we picked up all of our kids from school! Well, I got all of my must-do's done, but not my extras because I spent too much time in AC Moore:)
Tonight we are having dinner with my cousin Laura and Zach and Chloe who we haven't seen in a few months! And she just lives in Cary, haha. So we're looking forward to that.
But back to the girls who this is really suppose to be about:
The other day Mollie told me that she was a butterfly, she was pretending to fly around. Then she looked back at me and said all knowingly, "and I just came out of my cocoon". And she kept on going like, duh, leave me alone.
Sydney picked out a cute ballerina style dress at Kid to Kid yesterday for Halloween. Mollie is going to be Cinderella ballerina (a costume I found on ebay), so now they'll sort of coordinate. And Sydney's dress is a little big so it will make a wonderful dress up outfit for years to come!
I had a conference Monday with Sydney's teachers. Nothing major, just wanted to get in there and get to know them and the classroom routine better since I had such an uncomfortable feeling in the beginning. Well, Sydney likes them and is doing well so we'll just leave it at that. I'm going to volunteer on the 17th. I'll probably turn into that annoying parent, which I've never been before, but I think this year it will be necessary:) They just treated me like I was dumb and the things we said to each other were like 2 ships passing in the night and I am not an idiot. I understand curriculum. I am not worried about her being prepared for school. I wanted to call to their attention some issues with her staying on task that her teachers last year seemed to be so concerned about. Thought that might be helpful, and I'm glad she's fine, VERY glad. I just want Sydney to be successful and instead of appreciating that they were like, oh, she's fine, and acted like I had never had a child in an organized situation before, haha. Somewhat comical, yet annoying. I didn't bring up the fact that I taught Kindergarten and that this was her 3rd year at St. Andrews until later on, but they still didn't get why I was there I think. Or that I know how preschool works.
Guess I didn't just leave it at that, sorry:)
Anyway, I've kind of been missing working lately. Not that I want to go back right now with the girls at home. But I also go through periods where I think if I never had to work again all would be just peachy! I would make a great personal shopper for someone. But I am reassured to know that I think I'll go back to teaching. I miss it. I could tutor on the side, but I'm not THAT motivated yet:)
So this morning Sydney was moving kind of slow still so we took it easy for a while. Mollie didn't, she was up at 6:10! We played around the house, I got some more cleaning done.
Then we left for our little adventure to the Farmer's Market. I knew that Sydney was not going to be 100% today, but wanted to do something to get us out of the house and not have physical contact with others quite yet:) Like kids her age.
Anyway, we went to the NC State book store to buy the much needed tatoos for the game tomorrow. The girls had a great time in that store and we got Sydney a cute new shirt. (and one for myself, shh...) Then our plan was to go to McDonalds (where we almost never go) because they have Wizard of Oz toys right now! The girls love Wizard of Oz! So we head over to the McD's on Western Blvd. close to campus. Uh, not there. Seriously, the golden arches were there...along with a large leveled lot of dirt. This is where I hung out in college and have obviously not been back on that side of town well, since I was getting my masters and went down that road twice a week. It really tripped Sydney out. She thought it was so freakin' funny that it was just simply not there. I think she thought I was crazy. They handled going to Wendy's just fine because I think they were a little stunned. And darn it if I had known McD's was not there I would have packed peanut butter sandwiches! But anyway...
We went to the Farmer's Market and had a picnic on the picnic tables there that all go downhill. Weird. It was such a beautiful day! We bought some little pumpkins and Indian corn and just kind of browsed. Sydney actually rode in the stroller and Mollie walked, haha. I found a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers for $5 so we got that. The nice man gave each of the girls a beautiful stem of stargazer lilies. Those are the flowers that my bridesmaids carried in my wedding! So I really like them, but back to that. It was their lucky day because we were almost to the car and a lady at an apple stand asked the girls if they would like an apple. She just gave them one! They did say thank you to all these people luckily and Mollie tore into hers right away. And I was glad becasue they don't usually like whole apples. She dropped it getting in the car so Sydney gave her hers like a good sister (and because she doesn't like them;) )
We went home, had naps, etc. and needed to get some groceries so we went to Super Target this afternoon. Mollie and Sydney put their new panties and undershirt tank tops (Sydney, you knew it) up on the conveyor first. The cashier was so nice and asked the girls who they belonged to and asked them if they wanted their very own bag and bagged their stuff first. They were so happy! People were so generous today it was so cool. I think they really felt special. So when we were leaving Sydney asked for an Icee so I got them one. I said, you know, it's your special day apparently. And she said please for a change.
Back to the lilies. I love the smell and think they're beautiful. And am apparently very allergic. I remember when my TA and friend Liz got this beautiful bouquet of flowers for V-Day one year and it had some in it. They were so strong. I remember getting this horrible head ache and couldn't breathe well and we had to take the whole bouquet out of the room! Poor Liz. Well this afternoon I started getting a bad head ache again (I've been working on my sinuses hard core this week with medications) and then my throat hurt and I was getting all stuffy. Phil took the flowers outside and now it's getting better hopefully. Guess we can't have those anymore!
And an update on McDonalds. Sydney was so interested that I googled it and they are building a new 4200 sq. foot McD's there this Fall. I'll have to take her back to see it when it's finished.
Poor baby is so brave! She is just like, "I'm sick". "I can't have any milk for a few days."
In the middle of the night. Poor girl, really. She's been asleep on the couch most of the day. I guess we were up a lot of the night. I hate it when they're sick! So pitiful. Not to mention that it keeps up cooped up in the house when we're having really beautiful weather.
Saturday we have a noon home football game though and we should all be on the mend by then! It's supposed to be really nice that day also:)
And I have to say that last week when Mollie was sick and today I'm getting a lot done around the house! Maybe I should stay home more often...but what fun would that be!
I woke up last night sick as a dog. Delayed reaction from Mollie's virus I guess. I never get stomach things so it was not a welcome experience. Not that it ever is, haha. I called Phil this morning as he was in Greenville (nc). He came home and handled the girls. I was so nauseous and dizzy and couldn't sit up very long or walk very far. Surprisingly it seemed to go away pretty quick, just left me tired.
So then this afternoon Phil starts feeling weird, slept on the couch for an hour, then it hit him. Hopefully in the morning he'll also feel better. He said he has a busy next few days.
I was just so glad he could come home this morning. It was a scary feeling thinking I could not take care of the kids. I really couldn't. Sydney was a great help. I've never been that sick before. I've had my share of respiratory illnesses and you can make it through that even if you feel bad, but not tummy troubles!
I'll be glad when this is gone from everyone I know! It seems to be a bug of delayed reaction!
On a brighter note, the girls were glad that daddy got to see Mollie's dance and Sydney's gymnastics classes!
Mollie's illness was very short lived thank goodness.
My friends and I had an abbreviated girls weekend which turned out to be so awesome even though we didn't go to the beach. Too tired to go into all that, but it was a great recharge.
Sydney was very happy with some things I got her at the mall and Mollie was so happy to see me when I got her up from her nap it was priceless! She was calling for Daddy and I went to get her and she was surprised since Daddy had put her down for her nap.
Phil actually got things done around the house. I'm not quite as stressed out, just sleepy, but that's my own fault;)
My sweet little Mollie is sick! An apparent stomach virus. I don't do throw up! Apparently I do now. We were on our way to a hair cut appt. this morning when I heard the awful noise. In the car. Turned right around and went home. Mollie didn't even cry. Guess who did? Sydney. Wanted to go to Heather's so, so bad.
So anyway, it's been a very long day. I started this earlier, but a lot has happened since then. She only threw up a few more times when I tried to get her to drink some water. She is very lethargic and tired. Finally about 2pm she started keeping small amounts of water and lemonade down and she ate some crackers and a popsicle.
I think before bed she was running a fever.
So after many phone calls, my near breakdown, etc. we decided to cancel our play group beach trip. All of my friends were VERY nice and said they didn't care either way, just to take care of Mollie. Chris and Jennifer came up with an alternate plan for shopping/hotel Saturday. So we'll see if this virus spreads to anyone else in my house and if Mollie gets better. Then I'll still *hopefully* get some time away.
But poor Mollie has laid on the couch all day, watching a ton of tv and movies (Cinderella twice), and taking several cat naps. We had some great snuggles and I was glad to be home with her. She needs her Mommy, and I made the right decision to stay here. But like I told my friend Kirsten, "It stinks to be a grown up when you want to do something fun!"
They're all moms, they all understood!
I meant to mention before that Sydney and her friend Caitlin have gotten into sharing clothes. One day Sydney wanted to borrow a halter dress of Caitlin's so we let Caitlin borrow Sydney's favorite halter shirt. Last night we went over to their house to have pizza with their family and Kim and Joshua (Mollie's prince charming for the night). We took Caitlin a Hello Kitty shirt that Sydney picked out to let her borrow and Sydney picked out a pair of Caitlin's pj's that Caitlin didn't mind if she took home. It's so funny. They love it. I can just see the teen age years looming in front of us and sharing clothes...
Are doing great. Sydney is loving school. I should have known that I shouldn't have freaked out at her meet the teacher and should have just waited it out. While I still don't know her teachers at all, she seems to LOVE IT!! She comes home so happy and excited and actually tells me things she is learning! I think that's a good sign that she's learning this soon:)
When I was putting Sydney to bed just now she said, “what does the author do again? Write the words?” I said , “yes…”
She said, “and what is the person called who does the pictures?” I said, “the illustrator”. Then she said, “I also know the front of the book, the back of the book and the spine.”
Well, hot damn, this is the reading teacher's dream, haha.
To be working on concepts of print and book parts and the importance of literacy and hopefully how to treat books with reverence..already. Ahh...
When she gets out of school she is like, "where is Matthew???" Her class has pick up at the playground. Matthew's class is right across the hall from hers, but because the hall gets so congested they have one of the classes on that part of the hall pick up upstairs outside. Hers is. But the MMO is up there so I pick up Mollie then give her her lunch with Lindsay before we get Sydney. Well then Jennifer has to go get Matthew and we have to meet them so they can have their "freak out" play time after class. It's really like an obsession. At such an early age. But they're so freakin' cute!
I think we've decided to have the beautiful princess's 3rd b-day party in Dec. at Chick-fil-a...where you can have a princess theme:) I'm so excited.
Tomorrow evening I'm going back to the beach for a girls weekend with 4 other ladies from our Wed. Babysteps play group and I can't wait! It will be so much fun and relaxing. And thanks to Phil for not minding that I go down on Thursday evening instead of Friday! Yay!
Thank goodness the first home football game last night was a win! The girls did great and loved it. It got kind of late and we changed them into PJ's in the car, they slept on the way home, and we put them in their beds. It's really fun to do this as a family! And amazing how our tail gates have changed in the last 9 years, haha. Nancy and Travis park with us, but their seats are a few sections over, Nancy snuck down after half time.
Well, we had a date night scheduled for last night with Gramma watching the girls. We had planned to take the convertible out since we haven't been out in it yet together other than my "driving practice". Well, the tropical storm messed up that plan so we just took the Acura. Bummer. I'm sure there will be time.
Anyway, so Phil was saying that he had a surprise for me before we went to dinner at Peak City Grill (yum). I had no clue what it was that we could be doing that you wouldn't have to make an appt. for and that wouldn't take very long. Well we drove over to Beaver Creek and I was like, is the Dollar Tree open? (because that would be great) Are we getting a new mattress, haha? (don't need one). I knew we wouldn't be getting dessert right before dinner and it's not like Phil would be taking me to Old Navy or Homegoods shopping or anything.
So we turned by Cancun Grill and I said, are we going to the AT&T store? Am I getting an i-phone? And he said yes. And me too. So, not like it was a huge special thing for just me, but who cares. He got a bonus gift card thing from work and we were talking about getting them, but we thought I was still under contract until Oct. and would maybe do it for Christmas. I guess he looked up my contract and it was 21 month, not 24 so I was eligible. So he used the gift card for our new phones. Also his company will stop supporting Blackberry next Dec. so in a year he would need a new phone so why not get it now? I really didn't think I'd ever want one, but Nancy has one and I'm really into the pictures and email and weather on the go and all that so I started to want one. Not like I was drooling or anything, but thought it would be neat. So now I have one! It's awesome.
And I sent an email from Peak City Grill while we were having dinner, haha. Just to do it. It was FAB!!!
OH, and dinner was great as usual. Then we went to see a movie that I will not even admit that we thought might be funny and I feel so bad that Phil actually consented to going and I can't get back that hour and a half of our lives....
We have such wonderful friends. I am very thankful. I really think that friends are a different kind of family and people that you can say things to that you can't say to your family. I am thankful for my family also, but anyway. I really appreciate all of my friends who live here and in different places. Those who I talk to every day and every month or more.
I can always find someone to hang out with when Phil is travleing:) And we have so much fun! I love that I have so many friends with kids who can play with mine. And that we have friends with no kids so that they can come to our house and hang out after the kids go to bed. Or we can go out with and have a good time and it's one less person who needs a babysitter!
My poor friend Lauren who I've known since I was 8 called me last night and was like, "by the way, I broke my leg". I almost died. I talked to her last Saturday evening when we were at the beach and I guess a few hours later she going down her back stairs and something happened and she fell and broke her ankle/leg. But we laughed so hard talking about her going to Walmart and getting a motorized shopping cart thing. She said she felt old and fat. We were cracking up. About her breaking her freakin' leg. And how there is a football game Sat. night and there's no way she can make it to her seats so she bought a rain suit in case she has to just hang out in the rain if they go. And how she doesn't need any help because she can just wear elastic shorts and stick anything she needs in the waistband. Love it!
I have lots of friends who are pregnant and I'm so excited about that. Some who have had other happy things going on, sad things going on in their lives, hard times, etc. Babies: now those can be hard times and happy times, haha. I love to help them all out!
Anyway, I'm thankful and didn't want to wait until late November to say it! Ha!
